Why Bother?

By Leoma "Lee" Pontius

I was hungry (and you didn't say "why bother.")

And you fed me.

I was lonely (and you didn't say "why bother.")

You smiled at me.

What a wonder when you hear the stars speak to you and a blade of grass whispers to your soul.

You are my angel because you let me love you back.

How clever it was when you took that extra step and encouraged me in my singing and art that I could soar again.

you are my precious because your heart and mind are open to new ideas and people.

In that way you share your very self in so many ways (that I don't even know).

I do know you have blessed me and in the same way you tell the universe you're OK.

May your life glow because of your uniqueness.

I am your special child.

You don't criticize me, even though I have paint on my clothing and a different way of expressing myself.

See how you accept diversity?

I was cast out and you took me in.

I wear no lipstick and you don't care.

So this just goes to show you that the spirit of Christ that is in you, really is blessing the universe.

If I had the words of Shakespeare or the libretto of Guiseppe Verdi's music, I would loudly exclaim.

Because you didn't act on "why bother," you activated the truth deep inside me.
